What to do With the Dropped Color in Crocheting

There are a few different options on what to do with the dropped yarn after changing colors when crocheting. What you do with it is going to depend on when you are going to need to pick up and use that color again. It's important to follow your pattern instructions for this.

Drop Color (dc) is commonly used when working in rounds in a striped pattern where you will use the picked up color all the way around the project.

Carry color forward (ccf)  is generally used when working in rows, with each color change being made at the same spot of the project in each row.

Carry color across  is used when you will need to pick up the dropped color in a different spot than the last color change worked.
